Where would you like to live?: What Proust said, though I thought that was rather obvious.
What is your idea of earthly happiness?: To constantly be learning new things in the theater of nature, surrounded by literature and creativity. Loving and being loved.
To what faults do you feel most indulgent?: To mediocrity.
Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?: Those who transcend the real in pursuit of the ideal, while maintaining their humanity.
Who are your favorite characters in history?: Alexander Hamilton, John Marshall, Hypatia, Socrates, Ralph Waldo Emerson, etc.
Who are your favorite heroines in real life?: Humble women with beauty of character. My mother, perhaps.
Who are your favorite heroines of fiction?: Those who triumph over their circumstances while never losing touch with why.

The quality you most admire in a man?: Intelligence, as in the combination of morals, insight, curiosity, and the want and ability to adapt to new knowledge and circumstance.
