What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?: Waking up at 3 a.m. in the middle of an PTSD-episode setback.
Where would you like to live?: I like where I am, if I could have a house with a portcullis and a moat around it.
What is your idea of earthly happiness?: Long stretches of uninterrupted solitude/writing, broken up with useful work and radical sex.
To what faults do you feel most indulgent?: Lack of ambition. My goals are pretty self-imposed.
Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?: Scherezade, the Doctor's Wife in 'Blindness', the protagonist of 'The Flute Player', Cool Hand Luke
