What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?: The everyday intrusions of other people
Where would you like to live?: Somewhere where I can be alone, in beautiful weather
What is your idea of earthly happiness?: Love
To what faults do you feel most indulgent?: a weakness-inducing love of good things - food, books, music (which is not really a fault)
Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?: Roquentin, from Nausea
Who are your favorite characters in history?: I can't say I like any of them - perhaps Wat Tyler, Martin Luther King Jr?
Who are your favorite heroines of fiction?: Buffy the Vampire Slayer!
Your favorite painter?: Caravaggio
Your favorite musician?: Debussy, Chopin, Regina Spektor, and possibly most importantly, Bob Dylan
The quality you most admire in a man?: Emotional honesty, the ability to love, intelligence, good humour
The quality you most admire in a woman?: as before
Your favorite virtue?: Mercy
Your favorite occupation?: reading, writing, daydreaming, idling
Who would you have liked to be?: A mathematician.
Your most marked characteristic?: an aversion to that which i crave most
What do you most value in your friends?: understanding, an ease coming with being in their company
What is your principle defect?: a despairing arrogance
What to your mind would be the greatest of misfortunes?: to have been born
What would you like to be?: something more, always, unless - with someone I love. Then it is nothing else.
What is your favorite color?: sky-blue, or sea-green, or any colour which manifests itself best in nature.
What is your favorite flower?: the daisy
Who are your favorite prose writers?: Jean-Paul Sartre, Rimbaud, Albert Camus
Who are your favorite poets?: Sylvia Plath, Rimbaud, EE Cummings, John Keats
What are your favorite names?: Immanuel, Olivia, Imogen, Benedict, Patrick, David, Sebastian, Valentine, Juliet, Isabelle, Sylvie
What is it you most dislike?: other people...
What historical figures do you most despise?: I could not despise a 'historical figure' - only a person... they could have had some thought or action more despicable than what they come to represent, and that would be their worst moment. I may hate them, but to despise is something more intimate
What event in military history do you most admire?: I don't admire any event in military history.
What natural gift would you most like to possess?: i'd like to think I had the potential for them all, in degrees. So, modesty, rather than pained shyness...
How would you like to die?: Painlessly, asleep, happy
What is your present state of mind?: confusion, reflection, amusement at Proust's answer
What is your motto?: I don't have one.
